Catching up with Powder and Roxy

In Dog Walking on May 7, 2010 at 2:24 pm

Roxy, May 6 2010

I have actually volunteered at WPHS a fair amount lately, but I have not managed to post an update in a while. I volunteered with the cats one day, and ended up taking another one home. Check out my cats’ blog for info on him soon. For now, let’s just start from today backwards. Yesterday I walked two dogs, Powder and Roxie. There are two Roxy/ie’s at the shelter presently. Roxie is a 2 yr old Norfolk terrier mix, very cute and energetic. I walked Roxy, a little bit older beagle/ german shepherd mix. Both Powder were very easy and pleasant to walk. Neither pulled, and both were very friendly. Powder enjoyed giving me kisses and cuddled up with my on the couch in the chill-out zone after our walk.

Meet Powder

  • POWDER
  • Sex: unaltered female.
  • Color: blue and white
  • Breed: Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Age: @ 1 year and 7 months old.
  • Weight: @ 69 pounds.

I am also working on a new project– a blog for the WPHS, and this post is x-posted there!

Buckles and Bubba at the Home Show

In events on March 17, 2010 at 2:22 pm

I volunteered for the offsite event at the Pittsburgh Home and Gardens Show this past Saturday from 2-6pm. The dog I was in charge of handling was Buckles, an 11 month old Pitbull girl. She was a pleasure. She was intrigued by all the sights and sounds, especially the stuffed animals. Buckles loved the chance to meet lots of new people and gave kisses to pretty much all the kids around. At one point she took a nap, and also spent time resting on my lap. A passerby commented that she was too big to be a lap dog. “Don’t tell her that!” I said. The other dog who was present during that time was Bubba, an adorable Manchester terrier. Bubba rode on my lap on the way back to the shelter, and sat like a little boy with his legs out in front of him looking out the window. I saw Kaiser for the shift following.

Meet Buckles

  • Sex: spayed female,
  • Color: brown brindle and white
  • breed: Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Age: @ 11 months old.
  • Weight: 48 pounds.

Meet Bubba

  • Sex: neutered male,
  • Color: black and tan
  • Breed: Manchester Terrier.
  • Age: 6 years old.
  • Weight: 25 pounds.

Tessa and Kaiser

In Cat Cuddling, Dog Walking on March 13, 2010 at 1:46 am

I had to stop at the Humane Society today after work to turn in my Betsy Ann chocolate fundraising orders. I couldn’t just stop by, though, so I spent time with one cat and one dog. I’ll be at the Home Show with the Humane Society tomorrow, stop by!

Tessa

  • sex: spayed female,
  • color: black
  • breed: Domestic Shorthair.
  • Age:  6 years old.
  • Weight:  7 pounds.
  • Impressions: This was the second time I’ve spent with Tessa. She is a little shy, but she loves to have her face and head rubbed. After I thought she might want to be left alone and shut her door, she meowed for me to come back.

Kaiser

  • sex: unaltered male,
  • color: black brindle and white
  • breed: Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Age: 10 years old.
  • Weight: 79 pounds.
  • Impressions: Kaiser is like an older distinguished gentleman. He’s very well behaved and focused. He pulled just a little bit, but then his age would kick in, and he’d get out of breath a little and slow down. We went on a pretty long walk, though, and he didn’t seem tired at all. He understands the “sit” command, and did it without treats.

Dogs:

Tiger

  • Sex: neutered male,
  • Color: brown brindle
  • Breed: Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Age: @ 9 months old.
  • Weight: @59 pounds.
  • Impressions: dominant, energetic young dog; very smart, knows his commands; must establish authority from start; loves treats; the brindle colors instead of dark brown and light brown are more like dark brown and golden, so he really looks like he has tiger stripes!

King

  • sex: neutered male,
  • color: black brindle and white
  • breed: Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Age: 2 years and 4 months old.
  • Weight: 82 pounds.
  • Companion: Chili
  • Impressions: King is definitely a big boy, so when he pulls, you’ll feel it. Luckily, he prefers a slow ambling walk. He seems to like people a lot, and hanging out with his girl Chili.

Cats:

Tessa

  • sex: spayed female,
  • color: black
  • breed: Domestic Shorthair.
  • Age: @6 years old.
  • Weight: 7 pounds.
  • Impressions: Tessa was a little anxious, but really liked being petted.

Arrow

  • sex: neutered male,
  • color: black and white
  • breed: Domestic Longhair.
  • Age: 1 year and 2 months old.
  • Weight: 5 pounds.
  • Impressions: Arrow is very playful, looks bigger with all that long fur, loves to be rubbed on face and chin.

Caramel

  • sex: unaltered male,
  • color: cream tabby
  • breed: Domestic Shorthair.
  • Age: @ 2 years and 0 months old.
  • Weight: 10 pounds.
  • Impressions: Caramel is extremely cuddly, sweet, affectionate (licked my nose!), playful. almost took him home. His color is a really light brown, like caramel. Caramel was abandoned when his family moved, but that didn’t prevent him from warming up to me immediately.

Reign

I walked Pitbull mix Reignn who moved very fast for only using three of her legs (of course that’s still one more than I’ve got). I played with bunnies. I cuddled a few cats, Espana, Shadow, and Princess, and played with kittens including an all white boy called Caspurr who looked  like my Ani but with green eyes instead of blue. Princess looked like Marko but a bit bigger and all black nose.
