It often happens that a man is more humanely related to a cat or dog than to any human being. ~Henry David Thoreau
I have been volunteering at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society since February 2009. I started out as a dog walker, then took the orientation to be a bunny buddy, and then to be a cat cuddler. While I was walking dogs, I adopted two kittens from the Humane Society, my cat Marko and Anise. I volunteer at the shelter and at off site events. Currently, I have well over 100 hours in logged volunteer time, and I love to visit the “kids” at the shelter. It is so rewarding to spend time with them, because they are always so excited for the extra attention. I am also an active volunteer with the Food Bank and the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. I also have two dogs, but they live with my parents and brother due to apartment restrictions. They are shiba inu, and their names are Akira and Shiro.
